Obituary of Darryl Ross

Please share a memory of Darryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Darryl (affectionately known as “Red Dawg”) was born on July 27, 1951. He was the first-born child of Mertha B. and Andy Homer Ross who preceded him to heaven. His sister Esther and his two brothers Kenny and Alvin also preceded him to heaven. Like all newborns, Darryl was special but unlike all newborns Darryl was considered very special because he was premature in an era when African American premature babies did not have a good survival rate, yet Darryl defied the odds and continued to rise above the odds his entire life. Darryl never met a stranger and his outgoing manner endeared him to everyone. He was always the life of the party no matter where he was and you could count on him to bring laughter and smiles wherever he went. He was truly a favorite throughout his large group of family members and friends. Darryl was considered the information source of the family. If there was information to be passed along to family members, you could count on him to share the news with everybody. He also loved calling everyone on the phone to chit chat and make sure everyone was okay. He enjoyed working his word find books, putting together his puzzles and watching old school shows like Andy Griffith and Wagon Train, but his favorite pastime was watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and calling his Aunt Ann to make sure she was watching so they could talk about the score later. Darryl spent the last 20 years or so living with his beloved niece Kim and her two sons, Trevon and Mike. He made sure life was always interesting for them and they made sure he was well cared for. There are so many people who loved Darryl that there’s not enough room to mention everyone, but you know who you are and we thank you for helping to look after him and for being a part of his well lived life. He leaves to love, cherish and honor his memory; one sister Pam (Vic); an adored niece, Kim, two loved great nephews, Trevon and Mike; three nieces; Trina (Reginald), Shanell (Kenneth), and Danielle (Eric); eight nephews; Anthony (Roxy), Tray (Darine), Dominque (Antria), Tyrone (Brittany), Antonio, Demetrius, Kenneth Jr, Kendrick, and Marco (preceded him to heaven), two cherished Aunts, Beverly Reynolds and Willie Hall and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews and many friends who loved him dearly. You are loved and we will miss you always!
