Obituary of Cynthia Ann Bowser
Mrs. Cynthia Ann Bowser, known as “Cyndi” to her friends, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 22, 2019 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, MO., three days before her 71st birthday.
Cynthia is survived by her husband of 40 years Kevin Bowser, daughter Felica (“Lisa”) Watts, son and daughter in-law Christopher and Alyssa Bowser, 5 grandchildren Jacob, Amanda, James, Joshua, Samaria, 3 brothers Peter, Gabriel, Elliot, numerous close cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, in-laws, and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her uncle Kevin Marshall of Oakland, aunt Gloria (Auntie Glo) Cook of New Orleans, and by her life-long friend Lynda Limbrick of Oakland CA. Cynthia Ann Marshall was born on October 25, 1948 in Alameda, CA to Esther Marshall and Harold Cook.
As a girl she lived in Oakland CA, but also spent some years living in New Orleans where she maintained strong roots her entire life. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1967 and went on to do “key punch card work”, for Main Frame computers, at a major insurance company in San Francisco, CA. Cyndi was also a secretary at a law firm and a single mom. She went on to complete 2 years of study at Contra Costa Community College in psychology.
In 1979 she married Kevin "Mr." Bowser, an officer and gentleman in the US Navy and quickly embraced the roll of being an “officer’s wife” by actively supporting the crews of the ships he served on, with various ship “community minded” projects. Cyndi (and Lisa) always fondly recalled going to sea with him on the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, sailing from Bremerton WA. to Alameda CA on a “Noah’s Ark” style relocation cruise.
After her Navy years, and a move to the Midwest (Omaha NE. and primarily St. Louis MO), she devoted herself to running a loving home for Kevin and Lisa. Physical fitness was very important to Cyndi so she played volleyball, supported Lisa’s Track and Field activities, and worked out regularly at fitness clubs throughout the 1980's. After having Christopher her devotion to her family expanded accordingly and she became deeply involved in school activities, as a Room Mother, each year until his high school years. One of Cynthia’s most joyous and challenging roles was that of a “Hockey Mom”. With many cold early morning practices, many home and away games, she always delivered Chris to the ice rink and most often stayed to watch him play, even in the cold that she disliked so much.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Cyndi was a very spiritual person and regularly participated in bringing Psychic Fair events to the public. She also shared psychically inspired wisdom through readings and through “filter free”, very direct, conversations with many. For the past 9 years she regularly enjoyed monthly social and educational events while cultivating numerous friendships as an active member of the ACES for MS Support Group in Zephyrhills, FL. Cyndi embraced smart phone technology and was known well by many for her masterful use of emojis and animated graphics that filled her many fun text messages with humor, compassion, and love.
Respecting all, Cyndi's choice was to not follow a single religion, yet she had a very close relationship with God and particularly enjoyed the teachings of Judaism. Cynthia was an exceptionally strong woman who wasted no time complaining. Wise beyond her years, she was always eager to help others in any way that she could. Her 26-year battle with MS was epic and although it did manage to take her ability to walk, she never let it steal her zeal for life, nor break her spirit, nor diminish her ability to love and to be loved in return.
Cynthia chose to be cremated and to not have a viewing of her body. Her family Sit Shiva and celebrated her life on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019, at 3:00 P.M. at Chris and Alyssa Bowser’s home located at 4318 Heidelberg Ave. St. Louis, MO. 63123. The service began with a non-denominational prayer. All family & friends were welcomed, as they paid their respects and shared joyful stories about Cynthia. Attendees brought a food dish to participate in the Sitting of Shiva. It was a most joyful event with some of Cyndi's favorite classic R&B music in the background, along with a slideshow on a big screen that showed numerous beautiful pictures of her with family and friends and with her beauty and spirit radiating magnificently. The atmosphere was filled with an abundance of love, mixed with a few tears and with plenty of laughter, exactly how she wanted it to be.
