Obituary of Shirley Ann Rick
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirl died Thursday, February 27, 2020, 11:30pm at home surrounded by family and friends. This was after her courageous, 7 month battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Our gratitude to Hospice for making her last days at home comfortable and pain free.
Shirl leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Robert of Arnold, MO: daughters Tiffiny Smith, husband Steve: Sheridan Hermann: her brother Joel Hommelson, wife Karen: 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Brittany, Aurora and Selene: Cousins, Pat Nicks, Bill Schwer, Sue Matula, Debbie Rask and Ronnie Hommelson: Sister-in-law, Laura Warchol, husband Bruce: Nephews Ryan Hommelson and Brett Warchol: Nieces Jody Smith and Ashley Hunter: and many close friends
Shirl had a passion for people. She never knew a stranger and had a knack for making people feel comfortable and welcome. Shirl loved entertaining. Her natural, outgoing personality brought people together and ensured that everyone was at ease and felt included.
Shirl was a giver. If a family member or friend needed help, she was there. So many people benefitted from her selflessness it is impossible to count them all.
She was a loving mother who always had the welfare of her children foremost in her heart. Later, her grandchildren became her passion and she was the best “Nana” a grandchild could hope for. Her fun and creativity will not be forgotten.
Shirl is a graduate of Bishop Du Burg high school. Upon graduation she worked at Southwestern Bell telephone company until she had children. As her children got older, she worked in contract cleaning. This occupation came naturally as she kept a meticulously clean and organized home. She had a flair for decorating and took great enjoyment in turning any environment into a beautiful and welcoming space.
Shirl will live on in the hearts of everyone she knew. To know Shirl was to love Shirl. Her love is a priceless legacy to us all.
