Obituary of Scott Alan Egan

Scott Alan Egan entered into eternal rest on July 11, 2020 at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis. He was born July 31, 1951 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and grew up moving due to his father’s military career. He graduated from Hampton High School in Allison Park, Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh prior to enlisting in the US Army. Following military service Scott worked for medical laboratories, the VA, Salvation Army Midland Division, and New Life Evangelist Center advocating for the homeless. He was a member of the Metro St. Louis Coalition for the Homeless.
He is survived by four sons, Jon, Jesse (Jesse), Kevin (Cait), and Daniel. Also surviving are three siblings Peter (Elaine) of Downingtown, PA, Jean Egan (Robert Okun) of West Suffield, CT, and Kathy (Morris) Effron, of Cambridge, MD, a nephew Jason Schmitt, nieces Lauren (Tad) Greenleaf, and Leslie Effron, and his many friends in St. Louis. Scott was predeceased by his parents Lt.Col USAF (Ret.) Paul F. G. Egan and Margaret B. Egan, and a sister, Nancy Schmitt.
Scott was a kind and gentle soul, a brilliant writer, a skilled Microbiologist and lab technician, and a tireless advocate for the homeless. He will be remembered for his love of history and the outdoors, his beautiful poetry, his compassion, and intelligence.
