Cleotis “Cleo” Barnes was born on September 9, 1959, to Pauline Barnes and Cleotis Perry. Cleo’s parents preceded him in death. Cleo met his partner James “Jim” White in 1987. Cleo and James were together for 28 years and were united in marriage in October 2015. James preceded Cleo in death. He was preceded in death by his sister: Evelyn Barnes ~ his brothers: Melvin, Dennis, and Ronald Barnes; Lamont and Darryl Perry ~ niece: Pamela Barnes. Cleo received his education in the St. Louis Public School System. He graduated from Central High School in St Louis, Missouri. After graduation, Cleo continued his education/training. Cleo subsequently received his certification/specialized training in the Hospital Inventory Control career field. Cleo was employed with St. Louis University Hospital - SSM Healthcare (SSM-SLU) since 1987. During his tenure at SSM-SLU, Cleo held a position in Inventory Control. In early 2020, he was promoted to the position of Inventory Control Supervisor. Cleo was extremely proud of his new position. He communicated that he was focused on mastering the aspects of his new role as supervisor. Cleo had a career track record of accomplishing set goals. His experience and knowledge, among other attributes were recognized by SSM-SLU Hospital when he received an opportunity for career growth to the supervisory level. It was indeed an accomplishment. Throughout his life, Cleo was affectionately known as “Red” to his family. Friendly, outgoing, energetic, and the life of the party are fond memories of “Red” that a great deal of family, friends, and acquaintances can truly identify with. Cleo was always well-dressed. He loved wearing bright colors, which speaks volumes regarding his personality, bright and cheerful. “Red” loved to dance; and loved jazz music. Cleo’s departure from this life on Friday, March 26, 2021, leaves cherished memories in the hearts of his special niece and Jim’s goddaughter: LaTasha Barnes ~ sister: Mary Ann Barnes ~ brothers: Kenneth (Kimberly) Barnes, and James Barnes ~ nieces: Darlene, LaTonya, Jamie, and Chelsea Barnes; Trinà and Tiffanie Barnes; Pauline and Trena Brooks; and Vanessa and Julie Porter ~ nephews: Leon, Ronald, and Ronell Barnes; Ronald and Roderick Gunthorp; Dennis Porter, Jimmy Brooks; and Kenneth Jr., Antonio, and Antoine Barnes ~ great nieces: Da’Mya, Tynia, Alliyah, Arbreona, and Chanayah ~ great nephews: Tony, David, Devin, Terrion, Treyvon, Michael, Mai’Kyla ~ special best friends: Heather Kaid, Michael Herron, and Marlene Schroeder ~ special long-time Barnes family friend: Ms. Luvenia Thomas. “Red” will be remembered by a host of nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, in-laws, many other relatives.
