Obituary of Julie Powell
Please share a memory of Julie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Julie Powell was the 11th child born to the union of
Fortune Brown Sr. and Annis Bragg Brown in
Vredenburgh, Alabama on September 23rd, 1944.
She was baptized a Christian at Westside Baptist Church
upon moving to St. Louis with her parents in 1957.
After graduating from Sumner High School, she earned a
certificate for data entry and information
processing. Julie’s passion for people led her to work for
St. Louis Housing Authority in 1965 as a Maintenance
Clerk. She held this position for several years before
leaving to work for Bell Telephone and then International
Shoe Company. She later returned to the St. Louis
Housing Authority in 1989 as a Housing Specialist. She
retired in 2011 from Volunteers of America, working with
the elderly.
Julie loved life and all the joy it brought. She especially
enjoyed basketball, cheering on her imaginary son, LeBron
James, and she never missed a golf tournament with Tiger
Woods.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Buelah,
Thordia, Lillie Mae, Eliza, Lucy Mac, Ernestine and
Olivia; brothers Fortune Jr., Berry, Booker T. and Alfred.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Stefi
Loris Powell, who currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri
and Julana Carol Parker, who currently resides in
Carrollton, Texas – both daughters born from her union
with Steven Powell (deceased). She also leaves behind two
lovely granddaughters, Jazmyn Jenée Moore and
Alexandra Simone Lee Parker; two sisters, Mary Etta
White and Maranda Brown of St. Louis Missouri; two
brothers, W. C. McCants of Mobile, Alabama and Peter
Brown of Detroit, Michigan; a host of dear nieces, nephews,
cousins, friends and her beloved grand dogs, Rowlee and
Chase.
