Please share a memory of Boris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Boris Orlando Thomas Powell, affectionately known as “Borsie”, “Bo” and “Champ” was born December 19, 1964, in St. Louis, Missouri. Son to the late Shirley Jean Powell and Earl Thomas. His mother later married his stepfather Chap Seawood. Chap raised Boris from an early age and was an integral part of his life. His mother, father, stepfather, grandmother, niece Pamela Williams, and his beloved siblings, Bridgette, Mark, Jeff, and his Uncle Sterling preceded him in death. Boris accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Westside Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Moses Javis. Boris continued his worship of Christ by attending churches throughout the city, finding comfort at Shalom Church (City of Peace) under the leadership of Pastor, Dr. F. James Clark. Boris received his formal education from the St. Louis Public School System and graduated from Vashon High School, where he continued to be a devoted Wolverine by attending all alumni events. Boris love for sports began early in age, playing baseball, football, running track and basketball. He continued his love of sports in high school by focusing on wrestling and boxing. As an adult Boris played on several baseball and basketball teams, where he was not the best player on the court but he could run the court and talk plenty of trash. Professional boxing became Boris career in 1991; where he won 23 fights. He won a total 32 fights; 17 knockouts and 2 losses before he retired from boxing in 2001 after a 5 fight winning streak. Boris enjoyed his life to the fullest and he was always a pleasure to be around; he had a great sense of humor and was a good friend to many. He wanted everyone to be in “Tip Top” shape, as he would say; and he was passionate about training. Boris departed this life April 4, 2022. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his six beautiful children Jarod (Nicole), Janae, Janise Powell (Phyllis Elliott), Meghan Luckett (Gwen Luckett), Bradley Woodard (Holly Woodard), and Kennedy Miller (Karen Miller); two grandchildren, who he took great pride in being a Papaw to Greyson “The Greyson” and Penelope; two brothers: Vincent and David (Monica); one sister: Pamela; one aunt, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives.
