Hattie Grayson Baker-Ward was born April 13th, 1954, in Bell City, Mo., to Henry “Feet Man” Grayson and Wallee Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo C. Ward; eldest daughter, (Tonya C. Ward); along with her parent’s, Henry “Feet Man” Grayson & Wallee Baker; five sisters, Genevia Jenkins, Rosa Lee (Baker) Shirley, Poncetta Baker, Joyce Allmon, and Lydia Allmon; seven brothers, Walter “Buc” Baker, Jr., Sam Grayson, Clarence Grayson, Cleveland Geralds, Leroy McCauley, Clifford Allmon, and Dalton Allmon. Hattie graduated from Bell City High School “Class of 1972”. Shortly after graduating, she started working at Shetley Nursing Home. During that time, she met Leo C. Ward, they dated, not long after that, the two became one on December 31, 1973. They decided to get married at the home of her grandfather, the late George Henry, Sr. from Bell City, Mo., by the late Elder Norris T. Pullen Sr. During their time together, God blessed Hattie with 4 children, Tonya, Samuel, Timothy, and Charity. She loved children so much so, she opened her own daycare. She not only raised her 4 children, but she helped take care of many children in the Metro East area. Hattie was a fabulous cook; she definitely knew her way around the kitchen. Everybody knew where to go if they were hungry. She always had something on the stove. Hattie was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord. She was a member of “Faith True Church – Church of God in Christ, East St. Louis, Il..” under the leadership of her father, Pastor Henry “Feet Man” Grayson. She served faithfully in whatever capacity needed. On Wednesday, August 3rd, 2022, at 5:45am God dispatched his angels to Memorial Hospital in Belleville, IL., to bring back the soul of our beloved Hattie Grayson Baker-Ward at the age of 68. She has now transitioned to a place of peace, love, and happiness forever! Hattie leaves to cherish her memories her children, Samuel (Vonda) Ward of Pittsburgh, Pa., Timothy Ward of Columbia, Mo., and daughter, Charity Ward of Springfield, Il.; 2 God daughters’, Viesha and Tieka Davis of Cahokia, Il.; 7 grandsons’, Brandon Ward and Tyras Tolden of East St. Louis, Il., Jamie Ahheim of Belleville, Il., Zhvaughn Ward and Sirr Ward of Columbia, Mo., Samson Ward and Solomon Ward of Pittsburgh, Pa.,; one very special grand-daughter, Nellie McNeal of Belleville, IL; brothers, David Baker of Bell City, Mo., Moses (Margaret) Grayson of Essex, IL, Emory (Annie) McCauley of Sikeston, Mo., Leroy (JoAnn) McCauley of Cape Girardeau, Mo., David (Pearl) McCauley of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Calvin Grayson, Sr. of Sikeston, Mo., Ricky Allmon of San Antonio, Tx., Raymond (Vera) Allmon of Fairview Heights, Il., Rock (Elisa) Allmon of Hutchinson, Ks., David Allmon of Orange County, Ca., Mansfield (Samella) Allmon of St. Louis, Mo., and Christopher (Louise) Allmon of Belleville, Il.; sisters Shirley (Nelson) Liggins of Sikeston, Mo., Elizabeth (Willie) Harrington of Sikeston, Mo., Dorothy (Herman) Jefferson of Fairview Heights, Il., Cecilia (Edward) Mayberry of Hutchinson, Ks., Tenezbe (Loyd) Caviatte of Pittsburg, Ks.; along with several nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, relatives, and friends. Hattie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her soul is now at rest!
