Obituary of John Wesley Thompson

John Wesley Thompson was the fourth son born to the late Effie (Lee) and Leo Thompson on March 14, 1953. He was preceded in death by his older brothers, Robert Williams and Leo CA Thompson. John confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. John was educated in the St. Louis Public School District. He graduated from Normandy Senior High School in 1971. He was accepted into the University of Missouri-St. Louis, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After working in the business world at McDonnell-Douglas and Federal Reserve, he returned to the University of Missouri-St. Louis and obtained a Master of Business Administration degree. John even served as president of the Alumni Association for a period of time. John was a sociable and fun-loving person. He loved football and baseball. He had a great sense of humor and a great work ethic. He loved to travel and was an avid reader. In 2011, he was compelled to retire due to disability and the unfortunate decline in his health. He still worked various sales positions despite his disability. Recently he was hospitalized in December, had surgery, was released, and in recovery. He had even returned to work. On January 18, 2023, John heard the masters call and departed this life to receive his new body in glory. He leaves to cherish his memory three brothers: C. David, Richard P. Thompson, and Edward (Claudia) Clark; one sister, Malinda (Vernon) Johnson; one godson, Edward John Clark; one nephew, Teon Payne; a special friend, Brenda Rice, a host of dear relatives and friends.
