Alice Marie “Sister” Dunger was born July 7, 1934 to Alex Williams Sr. and Lucy Belle, who both preceded her in death. She was the youngest of five children. She was educated in St. Louis Public Schools. She was employed as a seamstress. Alice, affectionately known as “Sister” was immersed in Christianity in her early childhood, which would become her lifelong support and anchor. Alice was baptized at Wayman AME Church where she served on the Trustee Aid Ministry, Matrons Club and sang in the Chancellor Choir under the leadership of Rev. Lonnie Wormerly. In 2013 Mother Alice joined Restoration House Community Church under the leadership of Reverend Frederick J. McCullough; she was a devoted Disciple of the church and served on the Senior’s Saints Ministry, Women of virtue Ministry and the Doorkeeper’s Ministry. Mother Alice loved her church family and those around her genuinely felt her warm, loving spirit. She was known to open her home to anyone in need. Sister was also known for her humor, love for entertainment and making delicious homemade cakes, her specialty scrumptious caramel frosted cakes.
