Obituary of Shannon Lyn Vazquez
Please share a memory of Shannon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the untimely passing of our beloved Shannon Vazquez (nee Dever). Taken from us too soon by a rare type of brain aneurysm. She was 33 years old.
Shannon was a fiercely independent free spirit, happiest in natural settings like fishing in the sunshine at Indian Camp Creek or collecting seashells on a beach. Her favorite color was orange and that color represents her spirit well; she was both full of fire and warm like a sunset. She found great joy at her workplace, Hobos at the American Legion, where she spent the past 10 years, treating her friends and regulars there like family.
Undeniably beautiful, she actually did "wake up like this" and her wry sense of humor kept those around her laughing. Her love for all creatures was unmatched and she never met a chicken she didn't like. Except Karen.
Unpredictably spontaneous, unselfishly big-hearted, she practiced kindness as her regular nature. We are all better people for having her touch our lives.
Shannon left us quietly on March 8, 2023, with her loved ones by her side—a special thanks to Evelyn's House for their support in making Shannon's final weeks peaceful.
Left to cherish her memory are Jorge Vazquez, her devoted husband, Jake and Landon, her sons, Izzy, her stepdaughter, Brian Dever and Stephanie Ekiss, her father and mother, Mark Ekiss, her stepfather, Chris Dever, her stepmother, Samantha Dever and Lauren Dever, her sisters, Mike Hefele and Mark Hefele, her stepbrothers, Debbie Dever, Wayne Gable and Russell Vitale , her grandparents, Joanne and Ed Raymond, Butch and Jan Dever, Ron and Linda Dever, Mike and Lauri Dever and Jennifer and Terry Wampler, her aunts and uncles. Cousins, nieces, nephews and great friends. All of whom will miss her dearly.
Her story does not end there. Exactly 30 years to the day after her sister Lauren's lifesaving transplant, Shannon's last selfless act took place. She gave the gift of life by being an organ donor, and, in that way, a part of her will live on.
Life is short, make it sweet.
A celebration of life will be held at Hobos at the American Legion Post 313 200 North Main Street St. Peters Missouri. Date and time to follow.
Please come with a story to share about Shannon. (We know you have at least one.)
