I remember when Eric and I first met. We met online and talked, as friends, for a bit. I had decided, that we should just meet as friends and hang out; get to know each other and have no expectations. It wasn't supposed to be a date; just a casual meet and greet, at Blueberry Hill. I wasn't sure if he took that advice to heart or not, but here comes this guy, with long, scruffy hair and out of control beard and I thought to myself, "Ok, he's clearly NOT trying to impress me." I liked him instantly, though. I knew that a real person sat before me, who didn't have anything to hide; nothing to prove and he wasn't trying to be something he isn't. We had a lot of common interests and ideas on where we saw our futures. It was totally a date, he just didn't know it, yet!!
So we see each other quite a few more times and this guy is not making a move. Phone calls, emails, text messages, all telling me how interested he is, but his behavior when we were together, was saying something totally different. I knew he was probably trying to figure out how I felt, so I literally texted him while he was at work, letting him know that he was going to be placed permanently in the "Friend Zone" if he didn't make a move. I never got a call back so fast, in my life!! The rest, as they say, is history!!
We had our share of ups and downs, but we pushed through everything that was thrown at us. We may not have taken the opportunity to get married, but we found and cherished the happiness, love, understanding and peace, that we shared together.
All throughout his illness, Eric was positive and strong. He never gave up, he fought hard, all the way to the end and he didn't complain...much! He accepted the fate of his illness, he found peace within himself, and spent his time doing everything that he loved.
